Who we Are And why You Should Train Here
ATA Martial Arts Keizer was established in 1999 by Mr. Kelley Ireland. It was continued by his son, Master Keegan Ireland, and came under the new ownership of Master Carson Clews in 2016. Throughout its history in Keizer, our school has been a staple in the Salem/Keizer community, developing the skills of discipline, respect, confidence, health habits, and safety in all of our students.
Our Vision Statement
ATA Martial Arts Keizer exists to use the physical and mental training available in the martial arts to develop the character and skills of our students. The ultimate reason for this is to create more opportunities in life (and prevent threats to those opportunities) for all involved: students, parents, instructors/staff, and the community we’re connected to.
About the American Taekwondo Association
The ATA (American Taekwondo Association) was founded in 1969 by Eternal Grand Master Haeng Ung Lee. His vision was simple, but far-reaching: He wanted every individual in the world to experience the life-changing benefits of martial arts training.
Each ATA School is individually owned and operated (the schools are not owned by the ATA, but rather, licensed to use their curriculum). The ATA seeks to develop cutting edge curriculum to equip instructors and school owners to change and empower their communities by taking the age-old traditions of martial arts and passing them on effectively to a modern culture, a modern generation.
The ATA, to its instructors, licensees, students, and competitors, feels like an international family of practitioners who have been impacted by the training and traditions of Songahm Taekwondo.

Master Carson Clews
Owner and Senior Instructor
Master Carson Clews is the owner of Keizer ATA, and our Head of Instructor Development. He is a 6th Degree Black Belt in the American Taekwondo Association, and a member of the 2018 class of Master Instructors. He has been training in the martial arts for 24 years (since the age of 11) and teaching for 20 of those years!
He is best known for his knowledge of the ATA’s training weapons, such as bo staff and nunchucks, as well as his ability to teach a wide range of students, from the driven athlete, to the wiggly unfocused 4 year old, to the shy hides-behind-Mom’s-leg child.
He is the lucky husband of Sarah, and the proud father of three daughters. Abrielle, his 8 year old, currently has her brown belt, Alsea, his 6 year old, holds her “purple-stripe” belt, and Aela, his 3 year old, is getting ready to start when she turns 4!
Mr. Reuben Gould
Head Instructor
Mr. Reuben Gould, our Head of Student Development, is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in the American Taekwondo Association. He began his martial arts training at 12 years old, and began teaching when he was only 14!
After 5 years of teaching, Mr. Gould left to experience other careers, but in 2018, hearing that his old friend and training partner was running his own school, he was drawn back to his first career.
Mr. Gould is known for an infectious high energy, a deep knowledge of the techniques, and a care for the students and instructors under his guidance.
He and his wife, Camri, are blessed with 2 daughters, Amelia (age 3) and Evelyn (3 months old at the time of this typing!)
